dance process journal #2: new snowfall

Here be scenes from Rehearsal 4, including more goofiness and an unexpected snowfall.  We're still just playing with simple ideas here, finding springboards from which we can travel towards something more complex.  Although I'm working with just two people in this rehearsal, we're building a flexible framework that will be able to adapt to any number of dancers and move into a variety of terrains.  Dancers:  Katherine Kiefer Stark, Barbara Tait.

dance process journal #1: beginnings

For this dance, the dancers will perform certain specific actions that I give them but in between those actions there will be room for them to improvise their own movements.  Right now we're working to develop structures around which the dancers can improvise.  At the start of the clip you'll see two dancers working on a simple, pre-set movement phrase.  Next, they use that phrase as the basis for improvisation.  This is followed by all three dancers working on another pre-choreographed phrase, and then two of them improvise with the first phrase again.  Dancers:  Loren Groenendaal, Katherine Kiefer Stark, Barbara Tait.
